Selena Gomez and The Weeknd are officially donezo as a couple, according to People and its inscrutable network of well-placed entertainment industry sources.
The publication reports that singer and television producer Gomez, 25, and the muso born Abel Tesfaye, 27, have split after a relatively solid ten-month-long stint as an item.
Sources state the split was above board, and was motivated by distance and its deleterious impact more than anything else.
“She and Abel have been going back and forth for a few months about their relationship,” one source claims, adding “it’s been hard with him being on tour and her shooting in New York.”
Despite their apparent separation, the pair are reportedly on good terms. TMZ reports The Weeknd was pretty chill after Gomez was spotted with former partner Justin Bieber, ostensibly because they’d already split.
In case you were busy doing things unrelated to monitoring the whereabouts of young celebrity couples, it’s relevant to point out that Gomez and Bieber palled around for a decent stretch of time over the (literal) weekend. We’ll leave you to speculate on the meaning of that hang.
It’s worth noting fans also caught wind of the apparent split before People’s announcement, thanks to a hardcore assessment of The Weeknd’s Instagram presence. Old mate unfollowed several members of Gomez’ friends and family, suggesting the bloke is no longer obligated to courtesy-follow her connections.
