Sass & Bide’s Unofficial Warehouse Sale

While snacking on gozleme and rifling through second-hand clothes a Pedestrian reader spotted Sass & Bide designer Sarah-Jane Clarke selling wares from a Sydney market stall over the weekend.

The focused and restrained Sass & Bide collection that designers Sarah-Jane Clarke and Heidi Middleton showed at this year’s London Fashion Week was one of their best-received shows in years; however despite the international success and high-profile clientele (Beyonce, Sarah Jessica Parker, Rihanna) we still remember that their empire began as a bedroom operation flogging skinny jeans at the Portebello Road markets in London – and despite all the success it’s great to see they aren’t above off-loading superfluous merchandise to market-goers at heavily discounted prices. Right on!

Our tipster said Sarah-Jane was manning her own stall at the inaugural Vaucluse Public School Trash and Treasure sale on Sunday 14th November. She was selling a number of Sass & Bide pieces, stuff from the more affordable diffusion line S&B and several T-shirts from past collections, as well as items from LOVER, 3.1 Phillip Lim, YSL and shoes from Marni, Chloe, Christian Louboutin.

When a punter asked how much an item was she responded: “That’ll have to be a hundred cause I can always sell it on Ebay.”

You don’t survive the GFC without a little business savvy.
