‘GOT’ Star Peter Dinklage Is Going To Be In A ‘Rumpelstiltskin’ Movie

Game of Thrones may be coming to an undoubtedly gruesome end but that won’t stop Tyrion Lannister actor, Peter Dinklage, from leaving fantasy land. The 49-year-old has signed on to star in and co-produce a flick about fairy tale character Rumpelstiltskin.

Variety’s insider sources say the movie is currently in development by Sony.

Multi-award winning writer Patrick Ness will write the script while Karen Rosenfelt, who has all the Twilight flicks, Me Before You, The Book Thief, Marley & Me, and The Devil Wears Prada on the ol’ CV, will produce.

It’s currently unclear which version of Rumpelstiltskin the film will adapt but it might just go with the classic Brothers Grimm tale.

So, unlike the annoying as hell Shrek version, this Rumpelstiltskin is an imp-like creature who suddenly appears to help a girl locked in a tower by a king. The girl’s father had stupidly told the king she has the magical power to spin straw into gold so naturally, his royal highness locks her up in a room full of straw and a spinning wheel.

To make matters worse, the king gives the girl until morning to transform the straw into gold otherwise he’ll chop off her head. With no straw-to-gold power, the girl is left to meet her death until a creature appears… Rumpelstiltskin, although he doesn’t give his name.

Rumpelstiltskin, seemingly a quality bloke, offers to spin the straw into gold in exchange for her necklace. The girl agrees and the gold appears. As you can imagine, when the king returns to find the glittering gold he fills the room with even more straw. So, Rumpelstiltskin returns a second time and spins the straw in return for the girl’s ring.

On the third day and absolutely overcome by greed, the king demands more gold. However, the girl no longer has anything to trade with Rumpelstiltskin… leading to a rather messed up deal.

It’s still extremely early days but any fantasy flick with Peter Dinklage sounds A-class to me.
