Preternatural badass Ruby Rose has been chosen to play Batwoman in The CW‘s ever-expanding roster of DC superhero shows, and plans for a standalone series are underway.

The Australian champ will first portray the toughnut crimefighter in The CW’s upcoming DC crossover event, which is likely to draw from ongoing series Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, Black Lightning, and Legends Of Tomorrow.

As for the character herself: Batwoman, aka Kate Kane, is a massively-skilled martial artist keen on ridding the streets of criminal wrongdoing – naturally – but will have to balance that drive with her own personal battles.

Batwoman is also an out lesbian, which is a first for a major hero in the DC television stable.

Taking to Instagram to share the news, Rose said “This is something I would have died to have seen on TV when I was a young member of the LGBT community who never felt represented on tv and felt alone and different.”

Caroline Dries, best known for her work on The Vampire Diaries, is working on the script for the prospective Batwoman standalone. Taking to Twitter, Dries had nothing but praise for Rose.

Expect to see Rose crush some gutterpunk’s face when the DC crossover event rolls around in December.
