Rooney Mara Has Reportedly Given Taylor Swift’s Girl Squad A Hard Pass

It’s been widely reported that Rooney Mara has repeatedly turned down a place in Taylor Swift‘s girl squad, and that sentence alone tells me this year needs to end very, very quickly.

OK! reports that T-Swift is “desperate to rope [the] 31-year-old actress into joining her ‘girl squad’” but that IRL girl with the dragon tattoo told her to “take a hike”.

Says the source:

“Rooney doesn’t want to be part of anybody’s entourage, despite Taylor’s incessant string of invitations to party. She even turned down Taylor’s invite to her July 4th Rhode Island bash.”

The source goes on to allege:

“Taylor’s been desperate to befriend the edgy Rooney since seeing her play a lesbian in ‘Carol‘, but Rooney’s a loner who avoids celebrity events if she can.”

Now let’s go one deeper: the self-appointed fake celebrity news policing website Gossip Cop, which makes a habit of calling out fake celebrity news stories, claims this one to be just that.

With not one timely detail in its article, OK! has seemingly concocted this random piece out of thin air. Our suspicions were confirmed when, upon investigating, Gossip Cop was exclusively told this is a “completely made-up tabloid story.” And it’s coming from the same outlet that recently published another wrong “squad” tale last month, falsely claiming Swift and Selena Gomez were feuding. OK! apparently has no real squad access at all.

Savage. But in this ‘post-truth’ world of ours where fake news is indistinguishable from the real stuff, perhaps Gossip Cop is the hero we need.
