Turns Out Rob McElhenney Got Murdered In The ‘Game Of Thrones’ Premiere

There’s probably an absolute metric tonne of stuff from this week’s Game of Thrones final season premiere that’s yet to be uncovered; it is, after all, a dense bitch. But one thing revealed overnight that, if you blinked, you may have missed, was the fact that Rob McElhenney of It’s Always Sunny fame managed to chuck a cheeky cameo in the middle of the episode.

The extremely brief guest spot cast Mac into the role of a Greyjoy soldier who gets brutally and summarily shot through the eye with an arrow.

Eagle-eyed fans among you may also have clocked the fact that fellow fan-favourite Martin Starr also features in the same bloody sequence, cut down just as brutally as Mac is.

A short clip of their appearance, along with a behind-the-scenes snippet featuring both Starr and McElhenney in full-on gory makeup having a wee cute little laugh.

It’s Mac! It’s Bill Haverchuck! In Westeros! Getting flayed by arrows!

McElhenney’s appearance in Game of Thrones caps off a years-long odd fellow working partnership between Thrones and Sunny; show creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss co-wrote the extremely good 2013 Sunny episode Flowers For Charlie, and later wound up filling minor roles as bored lifeguards in The Gang Goes to a Water Park.

Lord knows who else will show up in later episodes of Thrones this season and what grizzly fate awaits them, but if this is the standard we’re setting in episode one, bring it on.
