Rejoice, For Netflix Australia Has Announced Its Launch Date

Some excellent news arrived in our inboxes this morning in the form of a press release from Netflix, announcing the date of the streaming service’s long-awaited Australian launch.

It’s all happening on March 24, when the service launches here and in New Zealand, with House Of Cards as its flagship program, as well as a variety of other original content, and shows from the US ABC Network and Disney.
The most interesting part of all this, however, is the announcement of a partnership with internet service provider iiNet, which has confirmed a deal in which Netflix-streamed content will not count towards users’ monthly data caps.
In other words: STREAM ALL THE SHOWS.
At launch, the service will be carried on smart TVs from Samsung, LG, Sony, Panasonic, Philips and HiSense, as well as PS4, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii U, Apple TV, Google Chromecast and Fetch TV’s second-generation set-top box.
Per the press release, details on monthly pricing will be available at launch, but gift cards in denominations of $20, $30 and $50 will be available from stores including Coles, Woolworths, Big W, 7-Eleven, Australia Post and Officeworks.
Netflix original Orange Is The New Black returns for its third season on June 12 in the US, and Wet Hot American Summer debuts July 17, although there’s no official word on when these will be available in Australia.
Further information on content and programming can be found on Netflix Australia’s just-launched Twitter and Facebook profiles.
Netflix is one of three streaming services to launch in Australia this year, after Stan, which features Better Call Saul and is owned by Nine and Fairfax, and Presto, which has content from Seven, Foxtel and HBO.
