Rejoice, For A Musical Version Of ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ Is Coming

Sometimes the universe gives you a gift that you didn’t even know you wanted until right in that moment.

Today, that gift is the musical version of The Devil Wears Prada.

It’s been confirmed that a musical version of the 2006 film that stole your <3 is in the works.

And it is not entirely outside the realms of possibility that MERYL STREEP will be an ALL SINGING, ALL DANCING, ALL-ROUND-FABULOUS MIRANDA PRIESTLY. Especially considering the fact that in 2012 she revealed to Vogue that she’d be open to bringing the character back, despite “hav[ing] to lose the fucking weight.”

This is coming about via Broadway producer Kevin McCollum, who struck a deal with 20th Century Fox to transform successful films into musicals, starting with TDWP and will potentially follow with Mrs Doubtfire.

If all goes well and the venture makes serious $$$, then we could well be looking at future with musical versions of loads of 20th Century Fox classics.

That list includes, but is not limited to, The Simpsons.

Look – while there’s nothing to confirm the original cast will be joining the musical version, there’s also nothing yet to deny it, either, which is practically the same thing *shifts collar*.
In the past Emily Blunt has said she’d be keen to get back into her character of, er, Emily, even though “we were all told to go on these skinny diets for the first time, but I’d be up for it.”

And even though Anne Hathaway inspires all these confusing we-hate-her-no-wait-we-love-her feelings, the girl has proven she can goddam sing.

There are zero words thus far on when the show will open, but you probably can’t expect it to hit Australian theatres any time this year. Or next.

By all means, Devil Wears Prada: The Musical, move at a glacial pace. You know how that thrills me.
