‘One Day At A Time’ Has Found A New Home After Being Cancelled By Netflix

One Day At A Time

GOOD NEWS, MY FRIENDS. Wholesome sitcom One Day At A Time has been saved by the Pop Network after Netflix rudely cancelled the series earlier this year.

The Cuban-American series, a remake of the Norman Lear sitcom, follows three generations of a family and stars Justina Machado, Isabella Gomez, and queen Rita Moreno.

Pop, owned by CBS, has renewed One Day At A Time for a 13-episode fourth season. Deadline reports season No. 4 will debut in 2020 and will pick up right where season three dropped off. Elena (Isabella Gomez) will be giving college a good hard think, Alex (Marcel Ruiz) is getting older, Penelope (Machado), is becoming a nurse practitioner, Lydia (Moreno) has left Cuba, Schneider (Todd Grinnell) is newly sober and in a new relationship, and Victor (James Martinez) is married.

Co-creator Gloria Calderón Kellett thanked all of ODAAT‘s loyal fans who “were so wonderful and supportive and generous” in the time following its cancellation.

“To get cancelled and have that type of outcry really made us think, ‘We’ve done something right’,” she said.

We love making the show, we love these people, we love this cast.

We love this type of storytelling in a Norman Lear fashion, we love telling it about this family, especially right now when the Latinx community is still pretty vilified in the press by the administration, so to be able to put something forward that is positive and hopeful about a Latin immigrant family doing right in America seems important. We are really honoured and thrilled to be able to do it and so grateful to Pop and to Sony for allowing us to continue to tell this important story.

At the time of its cancellation, Netflix said it was due to poor viewership, writing: “The choice did not come easily – we spent several weeks trying to find a way to make another season work but in the end simply not enough people watched it to justify another season.”
