HOLY SHIT WE CANNOT CONTAIN OURSELVES NO WE CANNOT.
Yesterday we got our first look at Harry, Ginny and Albus Potter in full costume for ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child‘, and TODAY WE’VE GOT THE GRANGER-WEASLEYS*.
*Yep. They blended their last name. How cool is that??
“It’s 19 years later when the play begins,” said Paul Thornley, who plays Ron Weasley. ‘”Ron is married to Hermione Granger and they’re now the Granger-Weasleys. Our magnificent daughter Rose Granger-Weasley is about to start at Hogwarts, which is obviously a big day for everyone.”
J.K. Rowling says that Ron in his 40s isn’t very different from Ron in his teens, “except that his feet hurt a bit more”.
Ron and Hermione’s daughter Rose – played by Cherrelle Skeete – apparently takes after her mum.
“Rose is ambitious, obviously her mum is Hermione so she’s got a lot to live up to,” said Cherrelle. “I think they’re quite similar in the fact they put a lot of pressure on themselves. And she just wants to do the right thing.”
J.K. agrees, but says that Rose is “more secure, more grounded” than Hermione. “She was born to wizards and knows her place in the world. Cherrelle plays her perfectly: bossy but deeply loveable.”
Noma Dumezweni – who plays Hermione, and is just casually an Olivier Award-winner – is super cute when talking about her character.
“Being in full costume for the first time was stunning, because I went, ‘Ahhh there you are’,” she said. Bless.
J.K. said she saw Noma workshop the part, and was “overjoyed” when director John Tiffany cast her. “She gets Hermione inside and out,” she said.
THIS IS ALL TOO MUCH AND WE NEED TO SIT DOWN NOW, BYE.
