MORE STILL: First Pics Of The Granger-Weasleys In ‘Cursed Child’ Are Here

HOLY SHIT WE CANNOT CONTAIN OURSELVES NO WE CANNOT.

Yesterday we got our first look at Harry, Ginny and Albus Potter in full costume for ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child‘, and TODAY WE’VE GOT THE GRANGER-WEASLEYS*.

*Yep. They blended their last name. How cool is that??

Introducing…
The Granger-Weasley Family

“It’s 19 years later when the play begins,” said Paul Thornley, who plays Ron Weasley. ‘”Ron is married to Hermione Granger and they’re now the Granger-Weasleys. Our magnificent daughter Rose Granger-Weasley is about to start at Hogwarts, which is obviously a big day for everyone.”

RON GRANGER-WEASLEY

J.K. Rowling says that Ron in his 40s isn’t very different from Ron in his teens, “except that his feet hurt a bit more”.

Paul backs that up, explaining that Ron “wants to be comfortable at all times, hence comfortable cords, comfortable jumper, comfortable shoes. I don’t believe he’s a man who spends an awful lot of time shopping.” Checks out.
Also: we’re choosing to believe that’s a Chudley Cannons jumper, *not* necessarily a Weasley one.
ROSE GRANGER-WEASLEY

Ron and Hermione’s daughter Rose – played by Cherrelle Skeete – apparently takes after her mum.

“Rose is ambitious, obviously her mum is Hermione so she’s got a lot to live up to,”
said Cherrelle. “I think they’re quite similar in the fact they put a lot of pressure on themselves. And she just wants to do the right thing.”

J.K. agrees, but says that Rose is “more secure, more grounded” than Hermione. “She was born to wizards and knows her place in the world. Cherrelle plays her perfectly: bossy but deeply loveable.”

HERMIONE

Noma Dumezwen
i – who plays Hermione, and is just casually an Olivier Award-winner – is super cute when talking about her character.

“Being in full costume for the first time was stunning, because I went, ‘Ahhh there you are’,”
she said. Bless.

J.K. said she saw Noma workshop the part, and was “overjoyed” when director John Tiffany cast her. “She gets Hermione inside and out,” she said.

THIS IS ALL TOO MUCH AND WE NEED TO SIT DOWN NOW, BYE.

UPDATE: Noma Dumezweni’s casting appears to be confusing a few people. First of all – old news! The casting for Harry, Ron and Hermione was announced last December. Second, after it caused an unfortunate bit of controversy, both J.K. Rowling and Emma Watson threw their support round the race-bending of the character. And finally, as has been pointed out many times by many people before us, Rowling never specified Hermione’s race in the Harry Potter books. But anyway. Does it really matter? NOPE. We’re frothing to see Noma’s Hermione.
