James Gunn & Mark Hamill Just Became IRL Mates After Meeting On Twitter

Evening internet, we have a new wholesome celebrity friendship to share with y’all: Guardians of the Galaxy writer and director James Gunn and Luke Skywalker, defender of a galaxy far, far away, Mark Hamill.

According to Gunn on Twitter, he showed up to Hamill’s family home for a Memorial Day lunch where the whole gang shared coffee, BBQ, cornbread and a cobbler.

Let us all pause for a moment to consider the image of Luke Skywalker in a ‘Kiss the chef!’ apron, cooking snags and grilling onion on a barbecue, because that sounds delightful, and I would like to go to there.

For Hamill’s part, he spelled out what the pair were bonding over as they “talked about EVERYTHING: the weather, gardening tips, favourite recipes, growing up Catholic, our mutual love of dogs, blue cheese, risqué limericks…

Gunn later expanded on what they spoke about himself and it’s a full gamut of nerd subjects, from Chris Pratt to the musical Hamilton to wrestler-turned-actor Dave Bautista to Rick & Morty to legendary horror actor Bela Lugosi. And the list just keeps going…

Turns out our boys both love blue cheese – a correct and good opinion.

The pair first started talking over Twitter when a fan asked Gunn in February to find a role for Hamill in the third Guardians of the Galaxy movie. Well, Gunn knew that Hamill lived around the corner from him in Malibu, California, and invited the Star Wars legend over for coffee and a yarn about the possible role.

Then, in March, when interviewed by Carlos Bustamante for Entertainment Tonight Canada, Hamill said that Gunn had in fact slid into his DMs to discuss the meet-up, but “I don’t know if anything will come of it“.

Which started them off again, Gunn maintaining that he was super keen, but was out of town atm.

There’s been no confirmation from either side about whether or not anyone brought doughnuts.
