Mahershala Ali Confirmed As The New Saviour Of ‘True Detective’ Season 3

Well, here’s a tasty bit of news for ya: True Detective‘s season 3 is so bloody close to getting the green light, and Oscar winner Mahershala Ali has officially signed on to star.

HBO‘s president of programming Casey Bloys gave an update on the third season of the cult hit show – which produced an insanely popular first season and significantly less popular second season.

He says he’d read five scripts for the show.

“They are terrific… I was very impressed and excited,” Bloys said, according to Deadline. “We are talking to directors, and when we have a director we want to hire, it will be a go.”
Ali won Best Supporting Actor for his incredible turn in the Best Picture winning film Moonlight.

The third season has been in the works from creator Nic Pizzolatto for a little while now, with some assistance from HBO veteran David Milch. The second season was clearly rushed as hell and lacked the kind of cool American mysticism that made the first one pop, so hopefully they get it right this time ’round.
