After several months of grinding slowly around movie fans, revealing teasing details little by little, the good people behind Magic Mike XXL have gone for broke and whipped out a huge, juicy slab of information about the plot and cast of the upcoming film.
Slash Film have published a rundown of new names added to the cast, and there are some fascinating ones in the mix, including all-round excellent person Elizabeth Banks, Community star Donald Glover and retired NFL player Michael Strahan.
That’s not even it – returning star and rotating chunk of human kebab meat Channing Tatum will be joined by the likes of Amber Heard, Andie MacDowell and Jada Pinkett Smith, who will reportedly portray a strip club owner.
Interestingly, several key cast members from the first film won’t be returning. Matthew McConaughey, Riley Keough and Olivia Munn are sitting this one out, and it looks like handsome Brit and alleged Tatum-hater Alex Pettyfer won’t be back either.
And now for the money shot – Warner Bros have also revealed a plot synopsis for Magic Mike XXL. Read on if you wish to be spoiled, ruined or otherwise debased:
Picking up the story three years after Mike bowed out of the stripper life at the top of his game, ‘Magic Mike XXL’ finds the remaining Kings of Tampa likewise ready to throw in the towel. But they want to do it their way: burning down the house in one last blow-out performance in Myrtle Beach, and with legendary headliner Magic Mike sharing the spotlight with them. On the road to their final show, with whistle stops in Jacksonville and Savannah to renew old acquaintances and make new friends, Mike and the guys learn some new moves and shake off the past in surprising ways.
Matt Bomer, Kevin Nash, Adam Rodriguez, Gabriel Iglesias and, assuming a full moon doesn’t get in the way, Joe Manganiello will also be returning as part of the all-star cast.
There’s no word yet on what role Elizabeth Banks will be playing, but we’re hoping and praying she’s some kind of sassy lady commentator throwing shade at a stripper contest.
Magic Mike XXL has entered principal photography and can not come out soon enough.
