A ‘LOTR’ TV Show Is Reportedly In The Works, So There Goes Another 60 Hours

Lord Of The Rings may be returning to your screens as a brand-new television series from Amazon Studios, and God knows we could budget another sixty hours to one of the greatest fantasy stories ever devised.

Variety reports the estate of author J. R. R. Tolkien and Warner Bros. Television are busy formulating a TV adaptation of the story, a cool 14 years after Peter Jackson closed his cinematic trilogy with The Return Of The King.

While no deals have been confirmed,  Amazon Studios is cited as clear contender for a couple of compelling reasons: the studio has seen a backroom shift from ‘smaller’ shows like (the great) Transparent towards epic series with huge cross-cultural appeal.

Also, CEO/massively rich bloke Jeff Bezos is apparently hogwild about the series, leading him to be personally invested in Amazon Studios’ acquisition of the franchise.

Jackson’s version is celebrated as one of the best blockbuster series of all time, but a televised (read: streamed) Lord Of The Rings revival would coincide nicely with the end of Game Of Thrones, and would serve as a natural competitor to other series intended to fill the Westeros-sized hole in our to-watch lists.

It’d also provide an excuse to delve into the story of Tom Bombadil, one of the few characters in the whole bloody yarn capable of being called a literal god. Seriously. More Tom, please.
