Aimed Squarely At Your Childhood, A Full-Length ‘Lion King’ Trailer Has Landed

Yes, in all likelihood, you have probably seen The Lion King before — but have you seen it done in CGI and with a voice cast that includes Donald Glover, Beyoncé, Keegan-Michael Key, and Chiwetel Ejiofor? I didn’t think so. This year, as part of a spate of classic animated 2D movies that Disney is adding a third D to, we will see the release of 2019’s reimagining of The Lion King, to be directed by Jon Favreau, who was similarly responsible for the recent Jungle Book do-over.

Launched amidst the flurry of goings-on at the Oscars, the trailer is essentially a chopped down version of the opening of the original film, but this time rendered in extreme photo-realistic detail:

The cast for this movie is absolutely stacked. In addition to the names mentioned above, viewers will also be treated to the wonderful voices of Eric Andre, Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, John Oliver, John Kani, Florence Kasumba, and (possibly most importantly) James Earl Jones reprising his role as Mufasa 25 years later.

The movie is slated to hit theatres July this year.
