Lady Gaga Rumoured To Play Donatella Versace In ‘American Crime Story’ S3

In what may be the most inspired bit of casting since, well, Maya Rudolph played her on SNL, it has been reported that Lady Gaga is in line to portray Donatella Versace on the upcoming third season of American Crime Story.

The first season of the anthology series dealt with the O.J. Simpson murder trial, the second will be set in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, and the third, already announced, will focus on the 1997 murder of fashion designer Gianni Versace.
Gaga has been pretty cozy with series creator Ryan Murphy of late, appearing in several seasons of his hit FX show American Horror Story, and it was Murphy who sparked this latest rumour.
Per reports in The Guardian, Murphy was sitting on a panel when asked if Gaga would be a good choice to play Gianni’s uber-fabulous sister Donatella. He reportedly grinned in response and said: “Ya think?”
If anyone can capture the essence of the human crocodile leather bag that is Donatella Versace, we know it’s Lady Gaga (or Janice from The Muppets, but she may not actually be available).
Gianni Versace was shot on the steps of his Miami Beach mansion in July 1997 by serial killer Andrew Cunanan, who latter committed suicide, aged 27, on a houseboat.
Cunanan murdered at least five people during a three-month period in 1997, and before Versace’s murder, was listed on the FBI‘s Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list.
The next two seasons of American Crime Story will be filmed concurrently next year, and Murphy is also working on another show, entitled Feud, about the great rivalries of the past.
The first season of that show will focus on the legendary old Hollywood feud between Bette Davis and Joan Crawford
