LA-Based Tattoo God Dr. Woo Is Coming To Australia For A Free Ink Pop-Up

THIS IS NOT A DRILL.

Dr. Woo – who you absolutely know from Instagram, as well as the skin of all your favourite celebs – is heading to Sydney for a one-off pop-up, and if you’re lucky enough to score an appointment with him, you’ll also be getting one of his elusive inks for free.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Even at the best of times, Dr. Woo is notoriously hard to get an appointment with. His wait list is rumoured to be two years, but he clarified to PEDESTRIAN.TV that that’s because some people have simply waited two years to get one. He opens bookings once every two months, and it’s first in, first serve – but when 500 people are emailing him all at once, “it’s a bit like a lottery” to see if your email gets through. (Never fear: he also gave us some advice for Aussies travelling to L.A. who want to try their luck at getting in.)

So here’s how the pop-up works: on Saturday 18th November, get down to the Hunter and Fox Tattoo Parlour (422 Botany Road, Beaconsfield) at 9am to register. At 10am, names will be drawn out, and those lucky few people will get a tattoo that day.

They won’t be set designs, either. Lucky customers will be allowed to choose their own tatt, but just like the rest of his work, it’ll be ~inspired~ by the city of L.A..

“I’m a proud Angeleno. I draw inspiration from L.A. all the time: the weather, the culture, the people. I really feel that I represent, in my art, the city that I’m from, whether it be palm trees, the beach, the ocean. A lot of people associate those motifs with Los Angeles,” he said.

“We used to call the big visible tattoos ‘job stoppers’ but this is no longer the case. Tattoos are the new normal. You are almost square if you don’t have one. Australia has a similar outdoors lifestyle, so I’m not surprised to hear that tattoos are so warmly embraced, just like in Los Angeles. I’ve never been to Australia before so I’m looking forward to checking out the local scene and leaving some of my designs.”

Honestly? We’re dying to get Woo’d. And failing to get lucky in the ballot, we’ll just have to embark on a lil’ tattoo tourism like the rest of ’em.
