Jim Carrey is set to star as a creepy Mr Rogers-esque kids’ show host in new Showtime/Stan comedy series, Kidding, and it looks both unnerving and extremely funny.
Kidding follows Carrey’s Jeff, a.k.a. Mr Pickles of Mr Pickles’ Puppet Time: a children’s entertainer with a shockingly bad haircut whose family begins to implode, taking most of his sanity with it with consequences both hilarious and heartbreaking. From the trailer, it even looks like he pulls a Britney circa 2007 (which, it’s gotta be said, is an improvement on whatever Anton Chigurh bullshit was on his head up to that point).
Carrey’s joined by Frost/Nixon‘s Frank Langella as Jeff’s executive producer, Seb, who can see the host starting tear town the empire they’ve built; Get Out‘s Catherine Keener as Deirdre, the head puppet maker (yikes, tbh); and Arrested Development‘s Judy Greer as Jeff’s estranged wife.
Most excitingly, the show is being co-produced by none other than Michel Gondry, who last collaborated with Carrey on the era-defining Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and whose arts-n-craftsy mark is all over the (still high-level spooky) trailer.
Kidding premieres September 10 on Stan, with new episodes released weekly. Cop a look at the very first trailer below:
