Jared Padalecki Is ‘Gutted’ After Finding Out About The Supernatural Prequel Through Twitter

Supernatural

In utterly baffling news, it sure sounds like Supernatural star Jared Padalecki had no idea about the new prequel series when he tweeted just that to his 2.9 million followers. That, or he’s taking the piss. This is all just extremely odd.

Earlier today, it was announced a Supernatural prequel is in the works at CW from Jensen Ackles, who starred as Dean Winchester in the beloved series, and his wife Danneel. It’s all very exciting and I can’t wait to spend another 15 years of my life watching this show.

But Jared Padalecki, who starred as Jensen’s on-screen brother Sam, kind of threw a dampener on the news when he said he only found out about the prequel series through Twitter.

No, really.

“Dude. Happy for you,” he said, quote-tweeting Jensen’s announcement. “Wish I heard about this some way other than Twitter. I’m excited to watch, but bummed that Sam Winchester had no involvement whatsoever.”

What? WHAT?

And then when a fan assumed (quite fairly) that he was joking, Jared dug in his heels.

I haven’t dipped my big toe into the Supernatural waters for some time now, but aren’t Jared and Jensen besties? Like, don’t they genuinely like each other, or did I miss some massive falling out?

I thought these two are like family – no, strike that, they’re Vin-Diesel-Fast-and-Furious-voice *family*.

Not to invalidate Jared’s feelings, but I do hope this is some sort of bit. Maybe Jared is just taking the piss and will announce his involvement in the prequel at some point soon? I hope so, anyway.

Of the prequel series, The Winchesters is set to be narrated by Dean Winchester (Jensen) and follows the “epic, untold love story of how John met Mary and how they put it all on the line to not only save their love, but the entire world.”

Awkwardly, there was no real mention of Jared in the announcement.

“I always felt like my character, Dean, would have wanted to know more about his parents’ relationship and how it came to be. So I love the thought of having him take us on this journey,” Jensen said, per Deadline.

God, I really hope this is a joke. Please be a joke.
