James Franco Reckons Social Media Is Over

James Franco, actor, scholar and all-round super-human has caused some waves this week with the revelation that he privatised his tweets and thinks social networking is on the way out.

Speaking at a benefit Dave Eggers 826 literacy project in Washington DC, the 127 Hours star gave advice to budding young writers about being creative (“If you want to write, make the time. We all have an hour or two a day that can be used for surfing Facebook or writing. No one is going to beg any new writer to write,”) before telling the press why his Twitter account mysteriously disappeared yesterday. Turns out he copped a bit of heat after live-tweeting this Oscars ceremony which he co-hosted a while back, and he’s not taking any chances.

“My thought was ‘this is my Twitter. I can do whatever I want.’” he said. “But certain companies I work with contacted me about what I was saying.” Not that this matters anyway, because Franco’s got the scoop:

“Social media is over. Still up there. Going down. You heard it here first.”

Pity we can’t re-tweet that.
