Fangy Daddy Ian Somerhalder’s New Vampire Show ‘V Wars’ Hits Netflix This December

Ian Somerhalder

I haven’t sussed out Ian Somerhalder since about season 2 of Vampire Diaries. I know the absolute bare minimum about him so if you also have a blind spot for the bloke, please gasp when I say (write) that he is 40-years-old, married to fellow vampire actor Nikki Reed (Rosalie in the Twilight franchise), and has a child. I just – when did that happen? ANYWAY, the reason I’m writing about Somerhalder on this fine Thursday arvo is because he’s starring in a new Netflix series. And somehow, it is also about vampires. Really, really.

Earlier today, Netflix unleashed a couple of spooky pictures from the upcoming series called V Wars. It’s based on the comics of the same name by New York Times best-selling author Jonathan Maberry. Basically, Somerhalder plays Dr Luther Swann whose whole world comes crashing down when a mysterious disease transforms his best friend, Michael Fayne (Adrian Holmes), into a murderous predator who feeds on other humans. As the disease spreads and more people are transformed, society goes to shits and it becomes an Us versus the Blood-Sucking Monsters thing. So then Swann has to race against time to find a cure while best mate Fayne rises to become the powerful underground leader of the vampires.

I mean, sounds cool.

V Wars hits Netflix, December 5. Stay tuned for the trailer.

Lovely pic on the right.

Now, to make you feel old again, Somerhalder recently celebrated the 10 year anniversary of The Vampire Diaries.

“Who could have ever thought, that incredibly stressful week of waiting for an answer, multiple auditions and ultimately the phone call from my manager and agent (after biting off several fingernails) that I had indeed gotten this role of Damon Salvatore in this little @thecw vampire show called the Vampire Diaries would change the course of my life forever,” he wrote on IG in September.

Somerhalder thanked fans the most for supporting the show throughout its many seasons.

“Your connection to and love for this show fuelled by passion and insight gave way to many, many years of experiences, knowledge, skill sets, and access to the joy of humanity I will carry with me for a lifetime.

“I’ve gotten the pleasure of meeting so many of you around the world and hearing your thoughts on social channels. What a joy and thank you for your energy. Thank you for this amazing opportunity.”

Ten years. Ten.
