‘House Of Cards’ Cancelled After Kevin Spacey Sexual Advance Accusation

Netflix has made the decision to end House Of Cards after its sixth season, after actor Anthony Rapp accused the show’s star Kevin Spacey of making an aggressive sexual advance on him when Rapp was 14 years old.

After Rapp’s allegation – and Spacey’s response to the matter, which has been criticised for attempting to shift focus away from the accusation and onto Spacey’s first public statement on his sexual orientation – Netflix called key cast members and production staff to alert them of the decision, Deadline reports.

While the show’s creators had previously discussed ending the show after Season Six, this is the first time the move has been confirmed.

In a joint statement obtained by Deadline, Netflix and production company Media Rights Capital said they “are deeply troubled by last night’s news concerning Kevin Spacey.

“In response to last night’s revelations, executives from both of our companies arrived in Baltimore this afternoon to meet with our cast and crew to ensure that they continue to feel safe and supported. As previously scheduled, Kevin Spacey is not working on set at this time.”

Showrunner Beau Willimon has also commented on the accusation, saying he never witnessed Spacey acting inappropriately during the production of House Of Cards. However, Willimon also said “I feel for Mr. Rapp and I support his courage.”

As it stands, the show’s sixth season is still expected to air in the middle of next year.
