The Gimlet Media podcast is full of celebs like David Schwimmer and Amy Sedaris, and tells the fictional story of a caseworker, Heidi Bergman, from an experimental facility via phone calls, therapist meetings, and overheard conversations. When a Department of Defence auditor visits Heidi to question her as to why she left the facility, her life begins to unravel as she realises there may be more to the story she has always believed.
It’s gripping and intense, so it’s come as no surprise to learn that Amazon Prime has picked up the podcast for a film.
The film stars Julia Roberts in the central role of Heidi Bergman, with Stephan James on hand as Walter Cruz, a soldier trying to transition back into civilian life. Bobby Cannavale stars as Colin Belfast, Heidi’s supervisor.
The film is being directed by Sam Esmail, the creator of Mr. Robot, so we can expect it to be dark, moody, and with a watch-your-back feel throughout.
