‘Hey Dad!’ Cast Members Speak Out On ‘A Current Affair’ Post-Guilty Verdict

Last night, in an exclusive interview with A Current Affair via Tracey Grimshaw the former Hey Dad! Stars talked through their experience on the show and how they’re doing since the seven week trial, which eventuated in Robert Hughes being found guilt of 10 (of a possible 11) counts of sexual and indecent assault.

Sarah Monahan, who came forward with allegations against Hughes, said of the trial coming to a close: “I think at that point I was thrilled for the other girls, that they had been able to get their verdicts in. I guess I’m vindicated now.”

Hughes looks set to lodge an appeal with his lawyer Greg Walsh alleging he didn’t get a ‘fair trial’: “Mr Hughes and his family have been subjected to four years of vilification. That builds up an enormous prejudice to his entitlement to a fair trial. It’s virtually impossible to get a fair trial in those circumstances.” To which Australia replied with a resounding ‘get fucked.’

During the interview a photograph, which was apparently sent to ACA years ago, was shown which depicts Hughes and Monahan and brings on an aggressive case of the creeps:

A common theme throughout the conversation with Grimshaw was the harsh criticism the actors recieved once the accusations were made, both from colleagues with the industry and the general public. Ben Oxenbould said of his experiences and the negative backlash: “Four years ago after we spoke I copped a lot of criticism from people, particularly in the industry saying ‘you idiot you’ll never work again’… I’ve had executive producers say ‘Benny we wanted you for that role but mate’ … and I think but mate what? I’m not the bad guy here.”

“My lesson in professionalism was ‘shut up about the pedophile’,” he said.

The sentencing of Robert Hughes is set for May; to watch the full ACA interview head here.
