Here’s Your First Look At Marvel’s Guardians of The Galaxy

Meet the anti-Avengers.

Marvel’s newest ensembles superhero franchise is called Guardians Of The Galaxy and is to Captain America and the conventionally handsome Avengers what Janis Ian is to The Plastics in that it revolves around an inter-species group of weirdo space heroes consisting of a talking racoon, two aliens and an ent-like tree monster.

Intrigued? A fifteen second teaser for the film has been released overnight and like most things in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it appears to be an apocalyptic affair on which to hang begrudging camaraderie between a group of people who appear to be very different but are actually very similar, mid-air explosions and snappy one-liners about how short that racoon is.

The film stars Parks and Recreation player Chris Pratt as human lead Peter Quill, Avatar’s Zoe Saldana as alien #1 Gamora, WWE wrestler Dave Batista as alien #2 Drax The Destroyer, Bradley Cooper as the voice of Rocket the anthropomorphic racoon and Vin Diesel as the voice of Groot, a tree who doesn’t really speak much (excellent casting decision). Other players include Benicio Del Toro, Glenn Close, and John C. Reilly.

Here’s the synopsis: “An action-packed, epic space adventure, Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits — Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Peter discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand — with the galaxy’s fate in the balance.”

A full trailer for the movie will premiere during tonight’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live
