In pop culture news I completely forgot about, The Gossip Girl reboot is currently filming in New York City. And while I’m personally a bit over reboots, one of the new cast members is pretty much Dan Humphrey (Penn Badgley) 2.0, so now I must know more.
The HBO Max reboot is set eight years after the original ending, and will follow a new generation of private school kids as they’re introduced to the wonders of the Gossip Girl site… in 2020. Much has changed on social media since 2012, so strap in.
The new cast were spotted filming a scene on those iconic steps at the Met Museum on Wednesday, the same location frequently used in the original series.
Then:

Now:

All I see is Dan Humphrey, I cannot un-see Dan Humphrey.
That’s actually Eli Brown, by the way. He’s had roles in Pretty Little Lies: The Perfectionist and Netflix’s Spinning Out, but Gossip Girl is pretty much his first big role.
Joining Brown is beautiful boy Evan Mock, Zión Moreno, Jordan Alexander, Tavi Gevinson (!!!), Emily Alyn Lind, Savannah Smith, Thomas Doherty and his Chuck Bass-esque jawline, and Whitney Peak.
The cast really were just casually filming at the Met today.
I came to the Met steps to take my gossip girl pics… but I ran into it being blocked off bc I witnessed the filming of the gossip girl reboot 😭😍 i’m living my NY dream pic.twitter.com/oMjajsqEOY

It remains to be seen if the original cast will cameo in the new series. Most of them have been rather coy about it, except for Chase Crawford who told Us Weekly that he’d be “open” to a chat.
Crawford played Nate Archibald in the series, you can now find him on Amazon Prime’s The Boys.
Gossip Girl‘s executive producer Joshua Safran, meanwhile, is extremely keen to get the gang back together.
“I would love for everyone to come back if they wanted to,” he told Entertainment Tonight last December.
“The universe still exists. The [new] characters talk about Serena, Blair, Chuck, Dan.”
While we don’t know if we’ll cop a cameo or two, we do know that Kristen Bell will reprise her role as the Gossip Girl narrator.
It just isn’t Gossip Girl without Kristen Bell.
You can stream all six seasons of Gossip Girl on Netflix now.
Or, you can do what I just did, and rewatch the ending on YouTube… and then immediately feel old.
