Netflix has dropped the trailer for its documentary about famous (and controversial) women’s rights activist Gloria Allred, and it looks like an absolute doozy.
“I’m so proud of all the women who have had the courage to speak out. Rich, famous, powerful men have to understand there are rules, there are boundaries,” she says in the trailer, as the faces of Harvey Weinstein, Bill Cosby, Bill O’Reilly, Brett Ratner and Donald Trump appear on screen. “This has got to end, and it needs to end right now.”
As a lawyer, Allred has consistently taken on cases around sexual harassment, women’s rights, transgender rights, wrongful termination and employment discrimination.
She won Melrose Place actress Hunter Tylo a $4.8 million settlement when she was fired for being pregnant, represented Nicole Brown Simpson‘s family during the O.J. Simpson trial, and is right now representing the 28 women who have accused Cosby of sexual assault and/or misconduct.
For her efforts, she’s abused, ridiculed and hounded, including by America’s president and well-known champion of women’s rights, Trump. (She took on Trump in 2012 when Canadian model Jenna Talackova was disqualified from a Miss Universe pageant because she was transgender.)
“She talked about sexual harassment, race, women’s rights when nobody wanted to talk about it,” says one of the people interviewed for the documentary, which includes Gloria Steinem, Don Lemon, Alan Derschowitz and Allred’s daughter, Lisa Bloom.
The documentary, directed by Sophie Sartain and Roberta Grossman (who co-produce, alongside Friends creator Marta Kauffman), shines a light on Allred’s decades long history fighting injustices, and goes into Allred’s personal trauma.
“There is a war on women,” she says in the trailer. “Women depend on me to be strong.”
Seeing Allred will premiere at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival, before arriving on Netflix on February 9.
