After charming us all in Slumdog Millionaire Indian actress Freida Pinto has been on a roll: from the fairytale romance with her dashing ‘Slumdog’ co-star Dev Patel to her lucrative contract as ambassador for beauty giant L’Oreal; now she has received the ultimate Hollywood handshake of validation: she’ll star opposite Daniel Craig as the latest Bond girl.
English director Sam Mendes (American Beauty, Revolutionary Road) will be directing the 23rd installment of the Bond franchise which has been written by Peter Morgan (“The Queen”), which suggests that – aside from the inevitable mindblowing action sequences, car chases and gratuitous shots of Craig’s bare chest, the movie should be a clever, provocative piece of work.
The as-yet-untitled Bond film is not due out until 2011, but in the meantime Pinto has two other films due out this year: Miral directed by Julian Schnabel, the filmmaker behind the incredible 2007 film The Diving Bell And The Butterfly. She also has a role in Woody Allen’s You Will Meet A Tall Dark Stranger – signifying that Woody has moved on from his pervy obsession with Scarlett Johansson to another gorgeous starlet. Bless.
UPDATE: Freida Pinto’s rep has denied the report stating: “I would like to confirm that as of today, Freida Pinto has not been approached to be part of the next Bond film.” – 23/03/2010
Remember the rest of the Bond girls? Well, film students with too much time on their hands sure do. Here’s to photo montages!
