First Six Games To Enter Video Game Hall Of Fame Have Been Announced

In news that is sure to halt the PC vs Xbox vs Playstation wars and start a whole new debate, the first six games to be inducted into the Video Game Hall of Fame have been announced:

They are, in chronological order: Pong (1972), Doom (1993), Super Mario Bros (1985), Pac-Man (1985), Tetris (1984), and World of Warcraft (2004).

The six were selected by a panel of journalists, scholars, and other gaming experts from an already announced panel of 15. (Side note: gaming scholar = career aspirations).

They were considered to be Hall of Fame-worthy due to their longevity (i.e. Super Mario Bros), cross-culture popularity (i.e. Tetris, which originated in Soviet Russia), influence on the gaming industry / pop culture / society in general (i.e. World of Warcraft) and iconic status (srsly, Mario again).

Still, when you read through the rest of the finalists that weren’t inducted into the Hall of Fame, a certain few get you right in the feels. The non-Hall of Fame whatever games are:

Angry Birds, FIFA, The Legend of Zelda, Minecraft, The Oregon Trail, Pokemon, The Sims, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Space Invaders.

The Legend of Zelda? Pokemon???

Life. It’s a bitch, ain’t it.

Nominations are now open for the June 2016 induction, so as long as you’re not being that guy and nominating Candy Crush / Farmville / anything else that comes with a side dose of never ending notifications from dickhead friends, nominate away.
