Disney has released the trailer for the next instalment in the Star Wars series, giving fans their first proper look at Episode IX during a panel at Star Wars Celebration in Chicago.
Director J.J. Abrams and Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy presented the trailer, and you can watch all two minutes of it below, complete with the big reveal of the film’s title.
The Rise Of Skywalker will be out on December 19 in Australia, and will wrap up the new Star Wars trilogy, which began with The Force Awakens in 2015.
Episode IX will one again star Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac, John Boyega and Adam Driver, as well as Mark Hamill and the late Carrie Fisher, who will appear via previously unreleased footage.
Domnhall Gleeson, Billy Dee Williams, Lupita Nyong’o, Richard E Grant, Dominic Monaghan and Keri Russell will also feature in the film.
If that familiar laugh at the end didn’t give it away, veteran actor Ian McDiarmid is also set to return in the role of Emperor Palpatine.
Walt Disney Co CEO Bob Iger has indicated that the Star Wars franchise will go on some form of “hiatus” after this film’s December release.
“We have not announced any specific plans for movies thereafter,” he said in an interview with Bloomberg on Thursday. “There are movies in development, but we have not announced them.”
