Disney Officially Out Of Ideas, Set To Make ‘Pinocchio-Inspired’ Live Action Film

Welp, Disney, you had a good run. 92 years young, a countless stream of classics and childhoods in the making, but ideas are finite, and you’ve gone and done them all. Or so it seems, as reports confirm a live-action reboot of ‘Pinocchio‘ is in the works.
Rebooting, redecorating and repackaging something that once worked for a new audience—Twin Peaks, Full House, The X Files, Tron—has always been a trend in the biz (why fix something if it ain’t broke?), but the steady flow of re-imagined classics seems to have rocketed like the length of Pinocchio’s nose in the face of a lie, of late.
Disney has overnight confirmed that Peter Hedges (‘What’s Eating Gilbert Grape’, ‘About A Boy’) will be on board to breathe new life into the iconic 1940 animation, in a project that will be “loosely based” on the original, according to Variety
Disney’s fresh take on ‘Pinocchio’ isn’t the only project of its kind in Hollywood; legendary director Guillermo Del Toro also has a ‘Pinocchio’ adaptation in the works with Mark Gustafson. Del Toro’s take, presumably unlike Disney’s, will reportedly be a darker version of the classic, using stop motion and 3D animation to bring the story to life.
No release date has been announced for Disney’s version yet; it will, however, follow on from Disney’s live action remake of The Jungle Book (2016) and The Beauty And The Beast, starring Emma Watson (2017).
