A brand new trailer for Detective Pikachu has materialised online, bringing with it a true existential horror: a photorealistic Lickitung.
Yes, the anime monster best known for its enormous and perpetually wet appendage has been rendered in excruciating detail. It’s all there: the tacky skin, the deep, dead eyes, and of course, that sparkling, salivating lump of flesh.

Christ.
That’s just one of several terrible (but well-executed!) additions to the big screen world of Pokémon, which now includes actual fan favourites like Bulbasaur, Eevee, Snorlax, that weird screaming monkey, a strange half-coconut, half-palm tree beast, and motherfucking Psyduck.
Of course, Ryan Reynolds features in the clip as the titular electric rat, alongside Justice Smith, Kathryn Newton, and Ken Watanabe as actual humans. Australian audiences will see if their presence outweighs the mortal terror of that goddamn Lickitung on June 16.
