‘Chernobyl’ Becomes Highest-Rated Series On IMDb After Harrowing Final Ep

HBO fans desperate for something light and escapist after the bloodsoaked final season of Game of Thrones were instead treated to Chernobyl, a five-part miniseries cataloguing the most horrific nuclear accident in history. It turns out those same viewers loved it, giving Chernobyl the highest rating awarded to a series on IMDb.

At time of writing – just a day after the final episode aired on Australian screens via Foxtel On Demand – IMDb states viewers awarded Chernobyl a rating of 9.6/10.

Remarkably, the show’s final episode has notched a near-perfect 9.9/10 rating after nearly 10,000 reviews.

Chernobyl‘s score puts the bleak series well above Game of Thrones on 9.4/10, and AMC’s Breaking Bad, which notched the same figure. For those arguing Chernobyl should only be judged against other miniseries, the excellent Band of Brothers also appears on the list with a score of 9.4/10.

The show has already drawn incredible praise from those within the industry, too. David Simon, the journalist and producer best known for creating the 9.3/10-rated The Wire, issued his thoughts to Chernobyl showrunner Craig Mazin overnight.
