Channing Tatum Is Your New Gambit

After getting his guns out while the sun’s out in 22 Jump Street and getting his rig out in Magic Mike XXL, it looks like Channing Tatum is going to be slipping on some spandex and sliding into the world of superheroes, with the announcement that he’s been confirmed for the role of X-Men favourite Gambit in a spinoff film of the wildly successful film franchise.

The much beloved character, who has appeared in only a bare few of the X-Men films, was first played on screen by Taylor Kitsch, who originally played the role in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
Tatum has long expressed desire to portray the character: “Gambit is the only X-Man I’ve ever loved. I mean, I’ve loved them all, they’re all great, but I guess just being from down South; my dad’s from Louisiana, I’m from Mississippi, Alabama, Florida. I don’t know, I just related to him … I would die to play him.
It has long been rumoured that Gambit would be the subject of a his own dedicated Origins spinoff film, and now that speculation appears to be confirmed. The spinoff series is also expected to include a film for Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, while screenwriter Simon Kinberg has expressed a desire to see Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique get a trot in her own dedicated feature as well.
Tatum’s Gambit is also expected to appear in the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse, the planned sequel to the latest addition to the franchise, X-Men: Days of Future Past.
