Ali Oetjen’s Debut Got The Lowest Ratings Of Any ‘Bachelorette’ Opener Yet

The new season of The Bachelorette is off to a slightly more mild start than previous seasons, with Ali Oetjen‘s debut raking in the lowest ratings of any of the season openers.

According to TV Tonight, 631,000 people (in metropolitan areas) tuned in to see the cornucopia of largely identical men that will be vying to find very real, very lasting love Oetjen. As Mumbrella is reporting, these ratings are down substantially from the 951,000 people (in metropolitan areas) that tuned in for the unambiguously charismatic Sophie Monk‘s opener.

The season prior to that (season two with Georgia Love) was just a fraction over Oetjen’s, coming in at 655,000 (people in metropolitan areas). Way, way back in the murky past of 2015, Sam Frost drew in an audience of 875,000 viewers (are you sicking of me saying ‘metropolitan areas’ yet).

Ten apparently aren’t too fazed by the ratings, with a spokesperson telling Mumbrella that the show “clearly struck a chord with the younger viewers with the show topping the 16-39 and 18-49 audience demos, and coming second in 25 to 54s“. (Sidebar: who are the 16-year-olds that are inside watching TV as it happens instead of skateboarding in abandoned buildings while smoking stolen e-cigarettes and using illegal VR technology, or whatever it is that teens do.)
