Australian Celebrity Apprentice As Demeaning As US Version

As regular viewers will attest, The Apprentice employs a Mr. Miyagi approach to training in which tasks of the menial/shitty variety are treated as legitimate tools for “learning about business”. “If you can sell hot dogs you can sell shares” – Donald Trump. It’s an outlook shared by Australia’s upcoming celebrity version, which started filming in Bondi’s Crystal Car Wash this week (man this Miyagi metaphor could go forever) and played out like a sudsy, schadenfreude-laden game of shame chicken. The contestants – Pauline Hanson, Jesinta Campbell, Warwick Capper, Max Markson, Julia Morris, Lisa Curry, Deni Hines, Wendell Sailor and Shane Crawford – scrubbed tires/buffed bonnets in a task made double demeaning when Hanson went pantless and Campbell stripped to a bikini she just happened to have on hand. Celebrity car washes; terrible for your dignity, excellent for your self defence skills.
