‘Airplane!’ And ‘The Hangover’ Top List Of The Funniest Films

A highly scientific study undertaken by movie subscription service Lovefilm has resulted in a list of the Top 10 Funniest Films Of All Time. Big call, right? According to panel and user-based research, the funniest movie ever is Leslie Nielsen’s camp 1980s disaster spoof ‘Airplane!’ (or ‘Flying High‘), followed by ‘The Hangover‘ (Part I, obviously because Part II was about as funny as Marley & Me). While Monty Python’s ‘Life of Brian‘ polled the top spot with surveyed subscribers, rigorous testing found ‘Airplane!’ delivered a higher rate of Laughs Per Minute (LPMs) ‘Brian‘ did. I’m not sure how you register 0.2 of a laugh but I’m sure there’s some sound reasoning behind that LOLing.

If most of the films in the top ten share a common thread it’s that much of their humour derives from bad, often gross things happening to ordinary, often shitty, people; that, and an excess of bodily fluids and the occasional misadventure with a baked good. Unlike this year’s list of the Top Ten Films That Make Australian Men Cry mostly from canine-related deaths, here are the Top 10 Funniest Films Of All Time, arranged by that highly-quantifiable unit of measurement that sounds more like a chewy marshmallow rice-based snack, LPMs. Hit the comments section if you feel wronged by Lovefilm’s factual filmic findings.
