2013 Tropfest Trailer Details The Morbid Origins Of The Party Balloon

Tropfest has released a beguiling 2013 trailer directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet indebted winner of last year’s competition, Alethea Jones, who plays the revisionist history card in a sweet but ultimately morbid short film detailing the little known origins of the balloon, this year’s signature item. Watch it below…

In some sadistic alternate universe a little girl died so we could all have party balloons. Yay?

The winning filmmaker will receive a $10,000 cash prize, a trip to
Los Angeles (for networking reasons), and, for the first time in
Tropfest
history, a brand new car thanks to Toyota – as well as an 86% chance of
landing on the cover of the Sydney Morning Herald the next day and a
potential viewing
audience in the millions. The winning film will be chosen by a jury of
celebrity experts which has
previously included Nicole Kidman, Toni Collette, Geoffrey
Rush
, Cate Blanchett, Russell Crowe, Baz Luhrmann, Ewan McGregor, Asher
Keddie
, Elijah Wood and Tobey Maguire.

Tropfest 2013 will screen at The Domain, Sydney and at other live venues across Australia on Sunday, February 17.
