It’s Not Just You, NAB Is In The Middle Of A Massive Australia-Wide Outage

If you’re worried that you may have emptied out your account buying rounds and scoffing down kebabs last night, it’s not just you – National Australia Bank is currently in the midst of a nation-wide outage, with NAB customers unable to access their bank accounts, withdraw cash, and in some cases, use EFTPOS machines.

Reports of the outage began at around 8am Sydney time, with customers taking to social media to complain about being stranded at petrol stations, unable to pay for purchases at cafes and supermarkets, and unable to withdraw cash from ATMs.

NAB acknowledged the problem soon after, saying that they were experiencing issues with “multiple services” and had teams working on the problem.

Customers have used the annoying downtime to come up with their most sarcastic burns on Twitter, and in the midst of responding to those, the bank’s social media team have been giving hourly updates on the situation:

Worryingly, there still appears to be no end in sight, but as of half an hour ago, the bank says that its customers can use EFTPOS machines operated by other banks, but are unable to withdraw cash from their accounts.

Many shop owners and assistants have been left in the lurch, unable to explain to customers why their EFTPOS machines are down or when they’ll be back up, so if you encounter a frazzled barista today, please be kind and maybe bring some cash just in case.
