For the first time in possibly decades, the Golden Globes red carpet is going to be equally the most interesting thing and the most monotonous thing about the awards show.
According to sources, at least 30 or so actresses will wear black, in a powerful protest about sexual harassment and assault within Hollywood.
Us Magazine reports that it was originally meant to be a just a small group of actresses participating, but word got out and now a few dozen are planning to participate.
“This movement is spreading rampantly and pretty much all the nominated women and others attending are participating,” said the source. “All the stylists who already did fittings are now changing out their clients’ original picks for Globes (potentially shifting those dresses to the SAG Awards or other carpets).”
Some of the women who will almost definitely be in attendance are Emma Stone, Margot Robbie, Helen Mirren, Saoirse Ronan, Judi Dench, Michelle Williams, Meryl Streep, Frances McDormand, Jessica Chastain and Sally Hawkins, as all are up for best actress awards (either in the drama category or the musical or comedy one).
Then you’ve got Elisabeth Moss, Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, Alison Brie, Issa Rae, Jessica Biel, Susan Surandon, Catriona Balfe, Claire Foy, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Katherine Langford from the television categories – and that’s before you even get into any of the best supporting actress noms in either film or television.
Last year’s Golden Globes red carpet looks was a sea of pinks, yellows, and metallics, with a number of banging black dresses thrown in for good measure.
Who wears what is usually a glamorous distraction for us plebs, and the result of months of manoeuvring by stylists, fashion houses, managers and the celebs themselves, each trying to ensure they end up on the best dressed lists (and avoid the worst dressed) and, crucially, don’t look *too* similar to anyone else.
TBH, extremely excited for a sea of black on the red carpet this year. Plus, each and every red carpet interviewer will ask about the dress, which will lead to a conversation about Hollywood‘s sexual harassment and assault problem on one of the world’s biggest stages. Tea is getting spilt.
The Golden Globes – hosted by Seth Meyers – are happening January 7.
