So Sean Spicer appeared at the Emmys, for some fucken reason. The former US press secretary was wheeled out – literally, with a wheeled podium – to take the piss out of himself with a gag about audience size, referencing his (false) statement about the inauguration turnout for President Trump in January.
On the one hand, being able to laugh at yourself is a good thing. On the other hand, the reason the gag worked is because Sean Spicer lied and lied throughout his entire tenure as Trump’s mouthpiece to the press.
Trying to make a joke out of consistently and shameless lying to the media on behalf of a sitting president is… well, at absolute best, it’s very fucking dark.
melissa knows
So yeah, folks in the audience clearly had some trouble processing Spicer’s sudden appearance.

Meanwhile, over on Twitter, people are having pretty much no trouble at all coming to a conclusion on the baffling choice to include Spicey Boy in the proceedings. The overwhelming sentiment seems to be, “What the ever-loving fuck?“
Seeing Sean Spicer during the Emmys mock the actual lie he told the American people about inauguration crowd is I don’t know, not funny.

Sean Spicer on the #emmys is proof we’ll pretty much give lying, mediocre white men a platform no matter what they do.

Sean Spicer: *lies, defends, & assists a white supremacist U.S. administration*
The #Emmys : “LET’S GIVE HIM A GUEST APPEARANCE!”

Seeing Sean Spicer at the #Emmys trying to renew himself after him offering his services to a bigoted, sexist, racist agenda is insulting.

There is no “taking a joke” when it comes to the Trump administration. That Emmy bit with @seanspicer was foul. It was social clemency.

Weird move, Emmy team. Weird, unsettling, unfunny move.
