Former White House press secretary Sean Spicer has just taken to the stage at the Emmys, because 2017 is sheer lunacy and history is coming to an end.
When host Stephen Colbert’s monologue veered onto the size of the crowd, the late-night presenter asked Spicer for his opinion, aping the deluded moment Spicer claimed US President Donald Trump’s inauguration crowd was larger than Barack Obama’s.
So, the man once charged with lying spinning alternative facts on behalf of the POTUS wheeled out a lectern and said this year’s Emmy crowd will be the largest of all time, end-of.
Making the moment even more bizarre was the presence of Melissa McCarthy in the audience, who achieved insane levels of notoriety for her pitch-perfect Spicer impression on Saturday Night Live.
She picked up the Creative Arts Emmy for Guest Actress in a Comedy last week, and Spicer even joked that she should share the award with him. Needless to say, she spun out at Spicer’s surprise appearance.

It hasn’t all been so jokey, though. Some are pretty reasonably concerned at the seeming warmth extended to Spicer since his White House departure, given the reprehensible viewpoints he was employed to sell.

The man gave a voice and patina of credibility to a violent, white nationalist presidency. Sean Spicer doesn’t get to be fun.
