Former AFL star Ben Cousins has reportedly been attacked in prison for refusing to take part in an inmate footy match.
The fallen footy player has served seven weeks of a 12 month sentence in a Perth prison on charges of aggravating stalking, repeated beaches of a restraining order and a number of drug possession charges.
Sports journalist Damian Barrett reported on The Footy Show that he was “set upon” by a group of prisoners.
“He was approached by a group of inmates and asked to play in a ‘scratch-match’ [a match between two teams made up of people who don’t usually play together],” said Barrett on Thursday. “He declined that approach and subsequent to that he was set upon by the inmates.”
The prison has declined to comment on the specifics, but The Footy Show reports that they’ve confirmed the assault.
