Queensland Police Tasered A Woman Right In The Eye

Today in the depths of unfathomable pain, a 36-year-old woman has undergone surgery after being tasered in the eye by a police office at her home in Logan, Queensland, yesterday afternoon.

According to The ABC, six police were called to the home of Sheila Oakley after she became upset following a visit from social workers. Shortly after their arrival and for reasons that remain undisclosed by both the police and The ABC, she was tasered. According to her sister:

“When she went to grab her handbag he tasered her and then the taser went straight into her eye. Four police officers then got her, threw her to the ground, turned her onto her stomach, put their knees into her back, and then put handcuffs on.”

For a full thirty minutes after an electrified steel prong lodged itself in her ocular surface, Oakley remained at her house “screaming in total agony… She was in so much pain she said to the police officers ‘The taser’s in my eye, the taser’s in my eye’, screaming all the while.” Following the incident, the officer reportedly apologised to Oakley, even though he knew she “[didn’t] want to speak to [him] right now.”
The Oakley family say they’ll be suing the Queensland Police Service, who are currently investigating the incident. It remains unclear whether the surgery has been able to restore her vision.
