Introducing Seja: Synth-pop Tunes And Crafternoon Delights

Seja has been a regular fixture on the Brisbane music scene for years having played synthesizers in both Regurgitator and Sekiden, and now she has gone out on her own to produce a debut solo record of super pretty synth-pop tunes. Called We Have Secrets But Nobody Cares the album recalls the lovely melodies and laidback vocals of New Buffalo’s Sally Seltmann combined with the spacious synth tunes of Air or Tears For Fears.

In order to get to know her better, Seja recently joined Pedestrian for a round of…

FINISH THAT SENTENCE!

My name is… Seja

And I am… Tall

I would describe my music as… an ode to analog synthesizers

Someone else would probably call it… girlie keyboardy harmony vocal pop ?music

Three things I can’t live without are… Roland SH101, felt, ponie

My musical dream collaboration is… Mark Mothersbaugh [Founder of Devo]

But I’d definitely settle for… Bob Mothersbaugh [Another founder of Devo but not as great at Mark]

Some musicians that I really admire include… AC Newman, Bill Callahan, Jason Lytle

Five songs (by other people) that I like listening to on a car trip are:
1. Drive – The Cars
2. Ton of Bricks – The Meanies
3. Uncontrollable Urge – Devo
4. Seventeen Years – Ratatat
5. Metronomic Underground – Stereolab

The best thing about being a musician is… getting to meet so many like-minded people all over the world

The worst thing about being a musician is… airports

When I’m not making music I like… Making little instruments out of felt

My guilty pleasure is… Michael Buble

To give you an introduction to Seja’s album, she enlisted the help of one of the nation’s loosest men and music video aficionado SPOD to make a clip featuring a teaser of her delightful tunes – as well as the vintage Roland moog that Seja handcrafted out of felt:
