Coldplay Voted Band Most Likely To Induce Sleep

What kind of music do you play when you go to sleep? According to survey results, Coldplay is the band most likely to send people to sleep – with swing throwback Michael Buble ranking second and Snow Patrol third. British branch of hotel chain Travelodge asked 6,000 participants to name the music act that helps them get to sleep with the following artists revealed as the top ten:

1. Coldplay
2. Michael Buble
3. Snow Patrol
4. Alicia Keys
5. Jack Johnson
6. Taylor Swift
7. Mozart
8. Barry White
9. Leona Lewis
10. Radiohead

Sleep Expert, Stevie Williams commented on the benefits of music before bed: “Results from various sleep studies undertaken with a variety of male and female groups, has indicated that listening to soft, relaxing music at bedtime; leads to a number of different benefits to a nights sleep. These benefits include a longer sleep duration period, fewer night time awakenings and shortening of the time it takes to fall asleep”.

The study also revealed that a massive 84% of people said they listen to music in bed before going to sleep – It would be interesting to see if numbers in Australia were that high.

I’d wager most iPod playlists for snooze-time would heavily feature melodic, down tempo tunes – the kind you associate with a lot of the acts that made the list above. Travelodge publicised the survey results in a article titled “COLDPLAY HAS THE SNOOZE FACTOR – AS IT CLAIMS NO 1 POSITION IN THE UK KIP CHARTS” and, while several people would probably argue the list is populated by MOR acts, it’s kind of crumby to write stuff like, “Chris Martin’s monotonous, meditative melodies claiming the number one position for lulling Britons into slumber” when it’s likely most respondents would have included Coldplay because they actually like the band.

Correct me if I’m wrong but no one listens to music they don’t like before bed on the basis it will bore them to sleep; they play music they actually like with a BPM slow enough to calm the nerves and decrease heart-rate.
