Well would ya bloody look at that, Amazon’s own streaming service, Amazon Prime, sneakily dropped in Australia last night. No announcement, just sweet content ready for binging.
While there’s no Australian URL just yet, if you head on over to Amazon.com or Amazon.co.uk, you’ll be able to sign up and pay $US11.99 or £7.99, depending on which location you choose. Previously, you would have encountered a big fat roadblock called geoblocking – the internet’s favourite content cock block. From there, you’ll be able to watch whatever is there for the taking.
And look, it’s clearly more of a loophole than a launch, but given our unyielding want for premium US content, we’ll damn well take it. It’s likely that an official Australian launch will take place next year along side their online shopping and fresh produce services.
Prime titles include Transparent, The Man In The High Castle and the Top Gear stars’ newest series, The Grand Tour. You won’t be able to stream from your phone or tablet yet, but you can definitely get amongst the action on a PC or laptop.
Happy streaming ya binge-watching mongrels!
