While an anti-marriage equality campaign—pitting “SAME SEX MARRIAGE” as the literal tip of a menacing iceberg—was denied airtime by Channel 7 and Channel 10 yesterday, Marriage Alliance‘s 30 second promo is still being aired on Channel 9 and Foxtel – a move that’s prompted significant heat to be directed straight towards the latter’s Facebook page by some viewers.
Marriage Alliance’s advertisement encourages a reductive, won’t-someone-please-think-of-the-children discourse around LGBT rights in Australia, and is, quite frankly, nothing more than visual poison.
Today, Australian Marriage Equality has counteracted MA’s advertisement, as its campaign—#WeCanDoThis—begins airing its pro-marriage equality TVCs around the nation.
The two ads feature Hugo Weaving, Julia Morris, Masterchef alumni Julie Goodwin, and players from St Kilda and Hawthorn – among a delightful handful of others.
The Australian Marriage Alliance is currently running a crowdsourcing campaign over here – raising funds to keep their TVCs on the air.
