We don’t need to tell most of you that Rugby Sevens pops-off on a global scale (see included images of the Hong Kong series), but for those of you who aren’t well versed in the language of scrum, let’s break it down for you.

Just as a regular 15-man game, the aim is to get the ball over the opponents try line. With Rugby Sevens, there’s only 14 players on the field at one time (seven players per side, obvi). Scoring rules are the same as normal games, but the main point of difference is the length of the game. Rather than two 40-minute halves, Rugby Sevens is made up of two seven-minute halves, with a measly two-minute break at half-time.
The result: faster, intenser and higher scoring matches (stats show that a try is scored every two and a half minutes). And, because they’re shorter, there’s more of them – at the Sydney 7s there’ll be 24 Pool matches on the Saturday, and 21 Finals matches on the Sunday. Das alotta rugby.
Another element that differs Rugby Sevens from the regular game is everyone’s patriotic commitment to dressing up as a complete wang.
If watching the Sydney 7s in all of its messed-up, brilliant glory sounds like a A-grade day out, then have a crack at entering the competition below – all you gots to do is tell us, in 25 words or less, what would dress up as to the Sydney 7s and why?
Winners will score: 7 tickets for you + your pals to the Saturday match, a dedicated VIP area to watch the action from, $2,000 worth of food/booze, personal wait staff to dote upon you, limo transport to the venue and personalised jerseys with your name.
