The hero of yesterday’s Melbourne Cup was not a horse named Almandin, but a human named Shae Miller.
She’s the Good Samaritan who, after one too many trackside Yellowglens, decided it was absolutely *crucial* to interrupt a Channel 9 reporter’s live cross seeking help to reunite a lost wallet containing the princely sum of $3 with its owner.
It’s a glorious 0:49 seconds that perfectly encapsulates each and every facet of tfw you juuust tip over into the “too drunk to function” territory.
Anyone lose their wallet? #9News pic.twitter.com/5Xc1KaaYA0

A dusty Shae woke to the realisation that her act of charity had gone viral, and was invited onto the TODAY Show to chat being lauded as a national hero.
“You had a big one yesterday, didn’t you?” laughed Lisa. “Awwww yeah, you could say that, yes,” she replied sheepishly.
As for how Shae – an office manager for an environmental company – and her drunken antics have been received by those that know her best, her Mum is still proud, though “way too many family members saw it [the video].”
She wound up handing in the wallet to security, “which in hindsight I should have done to start with” (hindsight and sobriety go hand-in-hand, sweet Shae).
Have a watch:
A bloody good sport and a bloody good bird.
